Assessment Team 

 
 
 

North Central Missouri College has a designated team whose primary role is to assist personnel in the assessment process. The team is overseen by the Dean of Instruction and consists of an assessment consultant from each of the four divisions (one of whom serves as lead consultant), the testing coordinator, coordinator of federal programs, and an editor. This team is also responsible for orienting new faculty to the assessment process, maintaining records, leading the annual review of assessment practices, and providing leadership in planning assessment in-services for faculty.

  Responsibilities of Assessment Team Members

 

Lead Consultant (director) of the Assessment Team (appointed by the Deans and Vice President of Instruction/Student Services

·        Compensation-release time of 6 hours/academic year

·        Responsibilities will include:

o   Leading discussions with Assessment Consultants, Division Chairs, Dean of Instruction, and Dean of Allied Health Sciences toward the revision of the assessment process and forms including course assessment, program review, and General Education, making sure they address standards expected by the Higher Learning Commission and Department of Higher Education as well as how the data could be used to improve student learning

o   Training in-coming Assessment Consultants

o   Leading monthly meeting with the Assessment Consultants (bi-monthly meetings until some major assessment projects are revised and implemented)

o   Attending Division Chair meetings upon request

o   Serving as the Assessment Consultant for the division

o   Providing leadership in training new faculty about NCMC’s assessment process

  • Working with the Assessment Team, creating a brief presentation outlining NCMC’s Assessment Process to be presented during  the “new faculty orientation series” (the afternoon 1-hour sessions Jamie has been scheduling for new faculty during September & October)

  • Scheduling a meeting with each new faculty member  in the division following the orientation presentation and individually guiding him or her through the process and reporting forms

o   Maintaining Course Assessment records

o   Meeting with each faculty member in the division prior to his or her submission of the Course Assessment Report Form. This meeting should include:

o   Confirming course assessment completion by instructors in the division to Division Chairs

o   Assisting those who are working on program reviews

o   Providing leadership in planning an assessment in-service for faculty that may include professional development and time to engage in structured assessment conversations

o   Overseeing the Assessment Consultants and meeting with them individually upon request

 

Assessment Consultants (1 per division recommended by the Lead Consultant of the Assessment Team and appointed by the Division Chair)

·        Compensation-release time of 3 hours per academic year

·        3-year commitment with one rotating off each year

·        Responsibilities will include:

o   Assisting with the revisions of the assessment process and forms. The consultants will work together with the division chairs, Dean of Instruction, and Dean of Allied Health Sciences taking a look at course assessment, program review process, and General Education, making sure they address  standards expected by the Higher Learning Commission and Department of Higher Education, as well as, how the data could be used to improve student learning

o   Meeting regularly-most likely monthly, but at first there may be a need for bi-monthly until some major projects assessment projects are revised

o   Giving a brief presentation outlining the NCMC Assessment process at  “new faculty orientation series” (the afternoon 1 hour sessions Jamie has been scheduling for new faculty during September & October)

o   Scheduling a meeting with each new faculty member  in the division following the orientation presentation and individually walking him or her through the process and reporting forms

o   Maintaining Course Assessment records

o   Meeting with each faculty member in the division prior to his or her submission of the Course Assessment Report Form. This meeting should include:

  • Taking a closer look at the completed  course assessment

  • Challenging the faculty member to tie back the assessment process to improved student learning

  • Assisting faculty in formulating a Plan of Action including a response to the data, any identified problems, and  initiatives to be taken

  • Reviewing the implementation of Plans of Action created in previous course assessments

o   Confirming course assessment completion by instructors in the division to Division Chairs

o   Assisting those who are working on program reviews

o   Assisting in the planning of an assessment faculty in-service that may include professional development and time to engage in structured assessment conversations Assessment Consultants (1 per division recommended by the Lead Consultant of the Assessment Team and appointed by the Division Chair)

 

Testing Coordinator: 

  • Administer tests and generate usable reports including longitudinal results

  • Answer faculty questions regarding specific instruments and related reports

Institutional Research Analyst: 

  • Collect, analyze, and report assessment data on the department and institution level

Communications/Media Specialist:

  • Develop, review, and update assessment webpages
  • Work with faculty, assessment team members, and administrators to prepare information pertaining to assessment for publiction
