The first home games of the 2011-12 basketball season for North Central Missouri College in Trenton are Tuesday, November 1 in the Ketcham Community Center on the college campus. The Lady Pirates will play Crowder College at 5:30 p.m. with the Pirates vs. William Penn Junior Varsity to follow. Admission to the season opener is free.
Head Coach of the Lady Pirates Jenni Croy made a few remarks about the upcoming season. “We return five players off last season’s squad with Maggie Arnall of Hartville as our only returning starter. She was at the point guard position and a Second Team All-Region pick. We are looking for returning sophomores Brittany Williams of North Kansas City, Jessica Prewitt of Bethany, and Carissa Conger of Hamilton to make an immediate impact for us. They have shown great leadership in the preseason and have really stepped up their game. Recruits Alexis Goodwin of Lathrop, Kelsey Griffin of Sedalia, and Kayla Hewitt of Richmond have played well in our preseason outings. Mysti Williams of Bethany looks to provide us with the size we've had inside over the past few years. We have a great deal of depth this season and could pick a different five players each night while not missing a beat in our play. I have a lot of confidence in my sophomores, and our freshmen have really brought a lot of enthusiasm and competitiveness to practice. We have a tough schedule ahead, especially in our season opener with a Division I opponent in Crowder College.”
The men’s team is looking forward to an exciting season of basketball as well, according to Head Coach Steve Richman. “I am very excited about our 2011-12 team. We have recruited a little differently than in the past and our team will have a whole new look. We are built on speed and shooting with an extreme amount of quickness to promote a faster-paced game. With only one player returning from last year, we will have a lot of new faces on the floor.”
The Ketcham Community Center and the Lady Pirates softball team will be hosting an “eat what you want, pay what you want” buffet prior to the games on Tuesday with the proceeds to help pay for softball team’s annual spring break trip to Florida. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. for the potato/chili dog/dessert bar to be served in the Sugg Room of the KCC.
