Jessica Prewitt, a sophomore at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, received a Missouri Community College Association Student Leadership Award at a ceremony in Branson on November 4. The award is presented annually to one outstanding community college student from each of Missouri’s twenty community college campuses who has demonstrated excellence in leadership activities.
Prewitt is a Resident Assistant in her residence hall on the NCMC campus. She is a Vice President in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, a math tutor in the Academic Resource Center, and a member of the Lady Pirates basketball team. The Lady Pirates Head Coach, Jenni Croy, said, “Jessica epitomizes the true meaning of student leader. She is able to balance her many campus roles while maintaining her 4.0 grade point average.” Prewitt, a Bethany native, was nominated for the award by Dr. Kristen Alley, NCMC Dean of Student Services.
The session at which the award was presented was attended by over 600 community college faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees from around the state. Attendees also included recipients of MCCA’s Distinguished Legislator Award, Missouri State Representatives Ryan Silvey and Lincoln Hough as well as Missouri State Senator Mike Parson.
The Missouri Community College Association is a statewide organization through which Missouri’s community colleges work together to advance common agendas. MCCA provides advocacy, education, information, and networking opportunities in service of the state’s 5,700 community college faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees.
