North Central Missouri College recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the North Central Missouri Mental Health Center, also of Trenton, to provide crisis counseling for its students.
NCMC Dean of Students Kristen Alley was the initiator of the Agreement. “Due to state cuts in education and in the area of mental health and wellness, we find this a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with resources, personnel and share information that will be valuable to our students. Nationally, colleges and universities have seen a dramatic increase in students coming to college and experiencing mental health issues. Though NCMC has not seen a large increase, we want to be proactive in providing a resource and outlet for our students. Not only will North Central Missouri Mental Health provide counseling, but they will also provide information to train faculty and staff, as well as information to educate our students regarding ways in which they can stay healthy and safe.”
Lori Irvine, Executive Director of NCMMHC, endorsed this cooperative Agreement. “We are looking forward to this opportunity to provide support for NCMC students and serve as a resource for NCMC personnel,” she stated.
An NCMC student can access services by setting up an appointment through NCMMHC. They may also be referred by an NCMC faculty or staff member.
Dean Alley said, “We are excited about our new partnership and see it as a cost-effective way to provide mental health services for our students without adding staff."
