The largest High School Holiday Hoops event in NCMC history is just days away and committee members have announced the need for additional volunteers and the date of a training meeting to assist volunteers in their preparedness.

A record-breaking 91 ball teams will be in Trenton over the holidays to play in a total of 68 basketball games  -  all on the campus of North Central Missouri College.  It is expected that over 250 volunteers will be needed to assist with hosting of teams, operating the game clock, scorekeeping and manning the admission gate.  Furthermore, volunteers who might assist in an emergency are also being recruited.   Persons wishing to volunteer for any of the duties should contact the NCMC Foundation Office at 359-3948, ext. 1415.

A meeting to train volunteers, new or old ones, has been scheduled for Thursday, December 6 at 7:00 p.m. at the Ketcham Center.  The hour-long meeting will prepare volunteers for the duties required as well as answer their questions.

The Eighth Annual Holiday Hoops begins on December 19 and concludes on January 2.  A total of 49 Missouri and Iowa high schools will be represented during the 10-day event and officials encourage the community, both business and residential, to roll out the red carpet for thousands of visitors to Trenton.   Restaurants, motels and service stations are among the businesses expected to see increased traffic as well as retail stores and the general community.   Steve Maxey, coordinator of the 12-member Hoops Committee, says it is difficult to estimate the amount of money that will be spent in Trenton during event, not to mention the potential for student recruitment for the local college.
