Dr. Paul Bruinsma, physical sciences instructor at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, has been elected to an office in the Missouri Community College Association which is based in Jefferson City. Dr. Bruinsma was elected as the Vice Chair of the Faculty Department and will be a member of the MCCA Board of Directors.
The Missouri Community College Association serves as the voice of community colleges at the state capitol, providing professional, persuasive advocacy on issues including funding for colleges’ operating budgets, maintaining the Public Schools Retirement System, the need for investment in buildings and facilities, and the importance of supporting A+ and other student financial aid programs. The Association also provides peer learning and personal connections through opportunities for members to interact with other community college professionals around the state. There are twelve community colleges (including large systems in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Springfield) in Missouri and all participate in MCCA.
Dr. Bruinsma will represent North Central Missouri College on the Board, and commented that he is looking forward to supporting the work of Missouri community college professionals. He lives in Trenton with his wife Lacey and daughter Sophia.
