Joint Occupational Therapy Program Approved

December 8, 2011

Final approval has been granted for North Central Missouri College to join the Missouri Health Professions Consortium (MHPC) to offer an Occupational Therapy associate degree in Trenton.  The MHPC, a federation of member Missouri community colleges and the School of Health Professions at the University of Missouri in Columbia (UMC), provides educational opportunities for students who otherwise would not have had viable access to affordable selected Associate of Applied Science degree programs in the health professions. By sharing resources and facilities, students from across Missouri are able to enroll in Consortium programs without having to move or re-locate from their homes and communities.  Other two-year colleges currently members of the Consortium are East Central College, Linn State Technical College, Moberly Area Community College, State Fair Community College, and Three Rivers Community College.

The lecture portion of the Occupational Therapy program (which will originate from the campus of the University of Missouri) will be delivered to students in Trenton via ITV, and these students will be attending labs at State Fair Community College in Sedalia.  The Trenton program will be limited to five students the first year, which will begin in the spring semester of 2013.

According to Janet Vanderpool, NCMC Dean of Allied Health Sciences, “This new program provides an opportunity for area residents that would not otherwise exist and further expands the career options in our Allied Health department.”  Packets of information about the OTA program are now available contacting Dean Vanderpool at jvanderpool@mail.ncmissouri.edu or 660 359 3948 ext. 1310.

In compliance with the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, NCMC has made gainful employment data available.  For information about NCMC graduation rates, the median debt of students who completed certificate programs, and other important information please visit the website at http://www.ncmissouri.edu/Documents/Gainful-Employment.pdf.
