As part of the activities of a recent National TRiO Day, an NCMC Foundation scholarship was awarded to student Trevon Jones from Kansas City, Missouri. Jones’ name was drawn at random after the completion of a puzzle activity. This scholarship is from the Foundation’s Knowledge Fund, which is an endowed composite scholarship fund.
According to a 1986 Congressional resolution, National TRIO Day is meant to focus the nation's "attention on the needs of disadvantaged young people and adults aspiring to improve their lives…” Members of Upward Bound and Student Support Services, two TRiO programs at NCMC, participated in a TRiO awareness scavenger hunt, a cultural activity about Brazil, and made door decorations for a local nursing home. TRiO is funded 100% by the Department of Education at $471,559 annually.
