Two Students Honored in Jefferson City

March 7, 2014

Two North Central Missouri College students were honored by the Missouri Community College Association Wednesday, March 5 in Jefferson City. The students were named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Missouri Academic Team, an honor bestowed on the state’s top community college students. The students honored include Caleb Bounds from Country Club Village, Missouri, and Allison Gibson from Gallatin.

Bounds is a pitcher for the NCMC Pirates who would like to go on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sports management. He has a 4.0 grade point average and is a resident assistant. He has received the Board of Trustees Scholarship and the Heartland Touchstone Caregivers Scholarship. Mr. Bounds is also the vice president of fellowship for his campus PTK chapter and the president of the Residence Hall Association.

Allison Gibson came to NCMC to start over. She said that starting college was the best decision she has ever made, and the greatest gift she has ever given herself. She dedicates herself to her studies, earning a place on the president’s honor roll, and to raising her four children. She plans to transfer to Drake University after getting her degree from NCMC and eventually to become a CPA.

Each student received a scholarship made possible by a donation from MOHELA, the state’s not-for-profit secondary market lender and servicer in the student loan industry.

The Missouri Community College Association is a statewide organization through which Missouri’s community colleges work together to advance common agendas. MCCA provides advocacy, education, information, and networking opportunities in service of the state’s 5,700 community college faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees.
