This year’s recipients of Cross Allied Health Science Scholarships were recognized during a reception held at North Central Missouri College. These scholarships were established by Dr. Albert and Carol Cross of Trenton because of their desire to help students achieve their higher education dreams in the field of allied health. Dr. and Mrs. Cross met with the students to congratulate them upon the receipt of their new scholarships.

Cross, a retired M.D. who practiced for many years in the Trenton community, commented, “I have been involved with this nursing program since its inception. Early in its history, nursing students rotated through my office to become acquainted with medical office practices. I had occasion to hire some of those nurses after their graduation. I found them to be well-trained, industrious, and excellent help.”

Dr. Cross was also very involved in a fund drive which allowed NCMC to build a new, state-of-the-art Allied Health building on the college’s campus, which opened in the fall of 2009. This building bears the name of Dr. Albert and Vera Cross Hall. “I, along with my late wife Vera, were honored to have our names put on the building,” commented Dr. Cross. “Since I have spent most of my adult life involved in healthcare, as have some members of my family, we are most interested in this career field. That is the reason we have specified that these scholarships will be given to allied health students.”

These scholarships are a part of the NCMC Foundation’s Gifts in Action Scholarship Campaign, which encourages the formation of new endowed scholarships. NCMC Director of Development Alicia Endicott remarked, “Dr. and Mrs. Cross are valued partners of allied health sciences students and all of NCMC.  Their generosity makes it possible for students to attend and pursue a degree in allied health sciences.  The kindness of the Cross’ and others like them, open up opportunities for students that may not otherwise have the option to continue their education after high school.”

Please contact Alicia Endicott at 660-359-3948 x1403 or by e-mail at to discuss a named scholarship in honor of family members or in memory of loved ones. These Gifts in Action will help deserving students achieve their higher education goals.
