Barton Farm Campus 

 

 

 

About The Elizabeth & Arthur Barton Farm Campus

  • 138 Acre Farm donated with the vision for an Agriculture Campus
    • 90 acres of row crop in share crop agreement with local farmer
    • Approximately 40 acres developed for the new Farm Campus including the campus buildings and future grazing pastures and crop plots

Lager Laboratory – Plant Science Building

  • 75’ x 100’ Building
    • Meeting Room; seating for 90; rented for Ag and Educational Related meetings
    • Science Lab; with attached prep room including fume hood, drying oven, plant growth chambers
    • Alternative Energy Lab; simulators and computer lab for Wind Energy Certificate (NCMC/Crowder)

Wahn Greenhouse

24’ x 48’ building constructed by Hummert International out of St. Louis

  • Fully automated microgrow climate control system which controls heat, humidity and alerts personnel to any problems
  • Contains potable and non-potable water hydrants
    • Non-potable (non-drinking) water is supplied by the 5,000 gallon Rain Water Collection Tank which is beside the Greenhouse
      • Collection Tank is operated by an automated pressure pumping system which allows water to utilized through the hydrants
      • Non-potable water will be utilized in watering Greenhouse and Landscaping Plants
      • Approximately 1,500 gallons of water has been collect in the tank from the rain water off the Lager Building in the last 2 weeks
  • Greenhouse will allow for more hands-on/applied learning instruction in Plant and Crop Science and Soils Classes
  • Crop and Weed Samples will be started for identification also for demonstrating fertilizer, chemical and pesticide application

 

Kuttler Animal Science Complex

Livestock Building is 128’ x 66’ in size and is open to the east

    • Includes 4 large animal pens & 2 small animal pens
    • 32’ x 40’ area containing cattle working chute and support equipment
    • 12’ feed alley and 14 ‘ scrape alley
    • Building is fully concreted for manure handling
    • Also has Feed room and Work room with computer access
  • Support Buildings
    • 30’ x 48’ Compost Structure with 4’ high concrete walls and concrete floor
      • Building composts manure which will be utilized for fertilizer
      • Also has a section for demonstrating the composting of dead animals
    • 30’ x 48’ Storage building for hay and machinery
  • Grazing paddocks and pastures will be developed after building completion
  • Animal Science Buildings will allow for more applied learning in Animal Science classes and also the potential for curriculum expansion by adding a Livestock Handling class
  • Animal Science Facility will be in operation in Fall 2012 School Year

 

Metcalf Resource Building

  • 75’ x 125’ Building
    • Shop – 56’6” x 75’
    • Machinery Storage – 50’ x 75’
  • Building includes:
    • Tool and lumber storage rooms
    • Locker room
    • Storm shelter in restroom facilities
    • Office with a view over the pond
  • Metcalf Facility allows for Agriculture curriculum expansion
    • Farm & Environmental Safety has been added this fall, which allows applied learning in tractor and farm machinery operation and maintenance
    • Potential curriculum changes could include an Ag Mechanics class which would involve welding and woodworking
