Medical Assistant A.A.S. 

Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks in the medical offices of hospitals, physicians, chiropractors, optometrists, and outpatient care centers.  The medical assistant reports directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner.  The duties vary depending primarily on location, size of the practice, and state laws.  The tasks can include but are not limited to maintaining files, completing forms, scheduling, arranging referrals and services, taking histories, preparing patients for exams and procedures, assisting the physician, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, instructing patients, preparing and administering medications, authorizing medication refills, telephoning prescriptions, arranging exam rooms, and purchasing equipment.
