Blackboard FAQs 

Q: How do I get a Blackboard account?

A: Students will automatically have a Blackboard account created for them once they register for classes at NCMC. Your account may not be activated until a few days before the semester begins.

Q: What is my username and password?

A: Your Blackboard username is your Student ID, which is located on the upper portion of your course schedule.  Your password is initially set the 4 digit year you were born and last 4 of your social security number. It is recommended that you change your password once you log in for the first time.

EXAMPLE: Abigail Adams = Username: 000199999 Password: 19931636

Q: How do I get to the Online @ NCMC Blackboard Course Site?

Go to NCMC's home page and click the Blackboard link in the lower right hand corner. Select Login. You will then see a screen asking for your Username and Password. Enter your username and password.

Q: How do I change my Password?

From the Welcome page, click on Personal Information from the Tools box at the left of the screen.
Select Change Password. Change your password to something you can easily remember and keep in a secure location. Submit changes.

Q: I have to login twice before getting on the Blackboard site. I receive an incorrect password error and when I login the second time I'm able to get on. Why do I have to login twice?

A: Be sure you are bookmarking (or saving as favorite) the Blackboard Entry page and not the Blackboard Login page. The Entry page sets a cookie that the actual Login page needs to see in order to read your information. It's a good idea to click on the Blackboard link from NCMC's homepage to get to the correct page.

Q: I'm getting an Error 404: Unable to reach Server error.

A: Your browser cache may have expired. Hit the Reload button to refresh cache and then try again. If still unable to reach the Blackboard site, the server may be down and you should contact your instructor.

Q: I'm getting a Java or JavaScript error.

A: JavaScript must be enabled in your browser settings. See System Requirements for more information.

Q: I'm getting "Site Unable to read" error.

A: Be sure you are running the latest Service Pack for Internet Explorer. See System Requirements for more information.

Q: I can't open a document that my instructor has posted.

A: You may not have the right software or a compatible version of software for the document. Ask your instructor for more information and where you can find the appropriate viewer.

Q: The Virtual Classroom and Chat do not load.

A: JavaScript must be enabled in your browser settings. See System Requirements for more information.

Q: Who do I contact if I lose connection during a test?

A: Contact your instructor.
