Celebrating 100 Years at North Central Missouri College, 100 Stories for 100 Years

In honor of North Central Missouri College’s centennial, NCMC will spotlight 100 inspiring stories throughout the academic year. These narratives will showcase the voices and journeys of our alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors, and the communities that have shaped TJC/NCMC’s legacy. Each story is a tribute to the people throughout history who make NCMC extraordinary.

Kimberly Meeker

Office Systems Technology (AAS)
Graduation Year: 2005

In May 2003, at just 17 years old, I graduated from high school on a Sunday and began my career in banking the very next day. At the time, I was advised that an associate’s degree would be essential for securing a stable, well-paying job. I also had two older sisters, both of whom I admired, who had earned associate degrees—so naturally, I was inspired to follow in their footsteps. In August 2003, I enrolled at North Central Missouri College (NCMC), pursuing a degree in office systems technology. During my time at NCMC, I balanced multiple part-time jobs, continued working at the bank, and got engaged and married to my high school sweetheart. Although this demanding schedule slowed my progress, I proudly earned my associate in applied science in Office Systems Technology in December 2005. I felt accomplished and ready to focus on advancing my career and starting a family.

Fast forward to 2012: My husband and I were now a family of four, and I had spent eight years in the banking industry. After experiencing a traumatic bank robbery, I decided to seek a career change. In July 2012, I joined the NCMC Financial Aid Department as a Financial Aid Representative. With mentorship and encouragement from remarkable female leaders at NCMC, I applied for and was promoted to the Director of Financial Aid. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Western Governors University in 2016 and my Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU) in 2022. I’m currently completing my 12th year with the NCMC Financial Aid Department and my 8th year as its Director.

Reflecting on my time as a business major at NCMC, I realize how much my courses and instructors prepared me for success in my career and provided a strong foundation for my advanced degrees. While the idea of “Dr. Kimberly Meeker” may sound intriguing, I feel content with my current level of education. My goal is to continue building on the skills and knowledge I’ve gained through specialized training within my profession.

The centennial celebration will continue throughout the academic year, and NCMC invites alumni, students, faculty, staff, and our communities to be part of the story.
