Celebrating 100 Years at North Central Missouri College, 100 Stories for 100 Years

In honor of North Central Missouri College’s centennial, NCMC will spotlight 100 inspiring stories throughout the academic year. These narratives will showcase the voices and journeys of our alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors, and the communities that have shaped TJC/NCMC’s legacy. Each story is a tribute to the people throughout history who make NCMC extraordinary.

2007-2008

After graduating from high school, I was uncertain about the career path I wanted to pursue. With a growing interest in criminal justice, I decided to enroll in a few criminal justice courses at NCMC. After completing classes with Mr. Koenig – specifically Introduction to Corrections – I knew this was the correct field for me. I went on to continue my education and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia College.

Following some time working in the field, I accepted a position in the Advising Department at NCMC. During that time, Mr. Koenig often stopped by to visit and began to encourage me to pursue a master’s degree. He believed I could one day take over the Criminal Justice program when he retired. Motivated by his support, I earned my Master of Science from Southeast Missouri State University and was later offered the position of Criminal Justice and Sociology Instructor here at NCMC.

Mr. Koenig served not only as my instructor but also as a mentor throughout my graduate studies. I truly believe I would not be where I am today without his encouragement and guidance. It is an honor to say that I am a former student of the program that I now teach.

The centennial celebration will continue throughout the academic year, and NCMC invites alumni, students, faculty, staff, and our communities to be part of the story.
