Story 48: Tina Holt

Associate in Arts

Graduation Year: 2000

For me, NCMC was more than just a place to take classes. It was the foundation that changed the direction of my life. It gave me the confidence and opportunity to continue my education beyond high school, which eventually led me to earn my doctoral degree and spend the past 23 years teaching in our local rural communities.

Athletics played a big role in that journey. Basketball opened the door for me and helped pay for my first two years, giving me an opportunity I may not have had otherwise. The lessons I learned on the court like discipline, teamwork, and perseverance have stayed with me throughout my career and my life. Being inducted into the basketball hall of fame is an honor that means so much to me, and it all traces back to the opportunity I was given at NCMC.

That impact has come full circle in my own family. Two of my children have attended NCMC, and watching my son follow a similar path by playing basketball there has meant so much to me. It shows just how strong the legacy of this college is and how it continues to shape lives across generations.

As NCMC celebrates 100 years, I am thankful to be one of many whose life was changed because of it. Its impact goes far beyond the classroom. It builds futures, strengthens communities, and creates opportunities that last a lifetime.
