Story 21: Rob Maloney

In honor of North Central Missouri College’s centennial, NCMC will spotlight 100 inspiring stories throughout the academic year. These narratives will showcase the voices and journeys of our alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors, and the communities that have shaped TJC/NCMC’s legacy. Each story is a tribute to the people throughout history who make NCMC extraordinary.

Associate in Arts
Graduation Year: 1996

As a first-generation college student, I knew a university setting was not the environment for me.  Large, lecture-style classrooms with 300 students per class would not have been conductive to my collegiate success, so I knew early-on that NCMC was the place for me.  One day, while working at Hy-Vee in high school, Pam Sager ever-so-graciously volunteered to be my advisor…and the rest, as they say, is history.  Small classes with caring instructors like Pam Sager, Phil Schlarb, Bill Oesterling, Don Dalrymple, and Julie Hefley cemented my collegiate success as I worked toward an Associate in Arts degree in Business, then transferred on to Northwest to complete a Bachelor’s Degree. During that exciting two-year time at NCMC, I was encouraged to join Delta Epsilon Chi (a collegiate business club) by Julie Hefley, NCMC business instructor, and that turned out to be the best experience of my entire collegiate career.   Fast-forward in time about 15 years, and I joined the staff at NCMC as an adjunct business instructor. In 2012, I was encouraged by Dr. Neil Nuttall to consider running for the NCMC Board of Trustees, a distinct honor I have enjoyed ever since.  Experiencing the exciting growth and development of the new facilities, the complete renovation of Geyer Hall, the addition of the Savannah Campus, the new cutting-edge academic programs—and now a new Student Center; it’s been my sincere honor and privilege to have been a part of it.  I look ahead with excited anticipation as to what the next 100-years hold!

The centennial celebration will continue throughout the academic year, and NCMC invites alumni, students, faculty, staff, and our communities to be part of the story.
