In honor of North Central Missouri College’s centennial, NCMC will spotlight 100 inspiring stories throughout the academic year. These narratives will showcase the voices and journeys of our alumni, students, faculty, staff, donors, and the communities that have shaped TJC/NCMC’s legacy. Each story is a tribute to the people throughout history who make NCMC extraordinary.

North Central Missouri College gave me a great start, and a great future. I am proud of being an alum and Academic Advisor from North Central Missouri College. After graduating High School (Go Linn Co.) about half of my class attended NCMC and we had an exciting time navigating college life, living on our own for the first time, and growing friendships. I was an undecided student when I started and with the help of Mr. Shannon Green I settled on a transfer degree.
After my first year of college, my life changed directions and as time went by, I knew I had to complete my degree. This time things were different, I had a full-time job, a place on my own, and a car payment. I enrolled in night classes part-time and am so thankful I had that opportunity. The courses I still needed included both science classes and math. I enrolled in Biology with Mr. Dennis Sager and Geology with Mr. Don Dalrymple. These Instructors helped me through the classes and always found a way to make class more interesting. There is something special about learning and engaging in the classroom. My final term, I enrolled in College Algebra with Mrs. Melody Shipley during an 8-week summer term. This class was by far my most challenging. During class we received one point to come 30 minutes before class and stay 30 minutes after class with a tutor available. I did not miss one free point. With this extra help I was able to complete College Algebra and graduate with an Associate in Arts. The faculty and staff here have always been (Stand Out) and I am forever grateful. After graduation I transferred to Missouri Western State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree.
One more note on Mr. Dennis Sager. One day I discovered a job opening at North Central Missouri College for Testing Coordinator and applied for the position. I asked Mr. Sager if I could use him as a job reference and he told me absolutely. Mr. Sager told the Interview committee he had no idea who Marie Moulin was until Linda Brown asked if he knew Marie DeVore instead and he knew me by this name. I accepted the position and have had the privilege of working at North Central Missouri College for over 20 years. (Go Pirates!)
