The Therapeutic Massage program prepares students for a career as a massage therapist. It includes massage therapy, general education, and business courses. Students must be accepted into the program to enroll in certain massage therapy courses. This degree meets the educational requirements of the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage and prepares students to take the national Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx) certification examination. The program includes courses that can only be completed at the Savannah Campus location.

This degree covers the topics laid out by the Missouri Board of Therapeutic Massage and prepares students for national certification through MBLEx. It meets educational requirements for licensing in the states of Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa. WHAT IS A MASSAGE THERAPIST

Massage Therapist treat clients by applying pressure to manipulate the body’s tissues and joints.  This treatment helps to relieve pain, heal injury, relive stress and aid in the general wellness of clients.  Massage Therapists may specialize in different modalities or specialties, such as Swedish massage, deep-tissue massage, work on populations such as athletes or pregnant women.  They work with clients to develop a plan of the desired outcome they want.

LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR THIS PROGRAM

Upon completion of the Therapeutic Massage AAS degree, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Assess client goals, health, and pathologies to design an appropriate treatment strategy.
  2. Demonstrate a variety of appropriate therapeutic massage techniques.
  3. Apply therapeutic massage techniques in a safe, hygienic and ethical manner.
  4. Apply standard practices to manage client records and business operations.
  5. Communicate effectively and professionally with clients.
