Gainful Employment

Rule Rescission

On Friday, June 28, 2019, the Department of Education announced they will rescind the Gainful Employment (GE) rule, effective July 1, 2020. Institutions have also been offered the opportunity to cease meeting GE regulations earlier than 2020, provided they follow the Department’s instructions. If you are not aware, the Gainful Employment rule provides a regulatory framework that governs certain metrics for certificate programs. Institutions receiving Title IV funds, such as Pell, must comply with the GE rule.

Effective 8AM, Tuesday, July 9th, 2019, North Central Missouri College will employ early implementation of the rescission of the Gainful Employment Rule. This will include cessation of all GE disclosure obligations, direct-delivery requirements and reporting requirements. If you or your staff are responsible for meeting any of these obligations, which may include but not be limited to posting GE information on the website, student delivery processes, or creating/distributing promotional materials, please remove any reference to Gainful Employment by 8AM, July 9th.

If there are components to Gainful Employment that you believe are beneficial to collect and communicate, please contact a Dean or Vice President to discuss. We want to remain transparent and are accountable to our students and the public. However, references to the GE rule must be removed.

Please note that the Department of Education has indicated they will pursue expansion of the College Scorecard. Additional details have not been provided.
