Distinguished Alumni Honorees, Class of 2021
The North Central Missouri College Foundation held its annual Pirates Ball Saturday, March 13, to honor three Distinguished Alumni, Dr. Jamie Hooyman, John Sturdevant, and Donovan Thompson. It also raised unrestricted funds for the Voyage Fund and held a live auction to raise funds for scholarships.
The event was at the Ketcham Community Center on the campus of North Central Missouri College, with just over 120 guests in attendance and many more viewing from home with a virtual ticket purchase.
“Our first hybrid event was a success, and I thank MW Auctions and Pirates Digital Media for making that possible,” commented NCMC Director of Development Alicia Endicott. “The Foundation’s events committee wanted to appeal to guests who were ready for an in-person event and to those who felt more comfortable at home or were unable to travel and still wanted to participate.”
Memories and stories were shared about the 2020 Class of Distinguished Alumni, Dr. Jamie Hooyman, Trenton, MO; Mr. Donovan Thompson, Bristol, CT; and Mr. John Sturdevant, Saint Louis, MO. All also had family members in attendance, and they reflected on their time at TJC/NCMC and how proud they were to receive the honor.
The entire event was simulcast through MW Auctions’ website, www.mwauctions.bid. NCMC Foundation Board Member Chad Boyd was the emcee for the evening, which included a video welcome from Allan Seidel, NCMC Foundation President, remarks by NCMC President Dr. Lenny Klaver, slide show honoring all Distinguished Alumni Honorees and Foundation events. Great Western Dining catered the evening’s meal, and comedian Chad Thornsberry entertained the crowd.
The evening ended with 15 lots up for auction to raise funds for the Foundation’s Knowledge Fund Scholarship. “After final gifts were counted, over three thousand dollars were raised for the Knowledge Fund, the Foundation’s general scholarship fund. We thank those who donated times for this cause; Ron Dougan, Steve Perry, Dr. Lenny & Mrs. Pam Klaver, Rep. Rusty Black, and the NCMC Alumni Association,” added Endicott.
The Voyage Fund is an annual giving campaign to raise unrestricted funds by the NCMC Foundation to help meet the unmet needs of the College. The NCMC Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
