Row Crop Equipment Operator/Livestock Herdsman

Schenkel Farms, Inc and Schenkel Trucking LLC is a fifth-generation operation seeking a qualified full-time equipment operator and livestock herdsman to work on a 2,500+-acre grain farm, haying operation, and 300-head cow/calf operation.  The farm headquarters is located 3-miles west of Maryville, MO, (home of a 4-year state university) and situated 2 hours from four metropolitan communities (Kansas City, MO, Omaha, NE, Lincoln, NE, and Des Moines, IA).

Job Description

Knowledge and willingness to work with all aspects of a modern row crop, hay, and cow/calf farming operation.  Must be able to follow directions, possess good problem-solving skills, have a willingness to learn, and be adaptive.  Looking for an employee who is reliable, trustworthy, can work in all forms of weather, has a positive attitude, ability to work independently, and works well with others.

Daily duties include but are not limited to machinery operation, assisting with cattle herd health care, and general farm duties.  Herdsman duties include feeding cattle, grinding feed, fencing, haying, and maintaining livestock health and performance.  Row crop duties include operating large equipment such as a grain cart, combine, and, semi-truck, and trailer. Also, assist with the repair of field tile, cleaning out terraces, spring fieldwork, and maintenance of fence rows and pastures.

Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to operate large farm equipment;
  • Experience with routine equipment service, maintenance, and cleaning;
  • Experience sorting and working cattle;
  • Understanding of cattle health care and herd performance;
  • General Farm duties;
  • Welding and mechanical skills are a plus

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma
  • 2 Years of crop production experience OR
  • 2 Years of cattle Herdsman experience
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to work flexible work hours during calving season, spring planting, and fall harvest.
  • Must be Drug-Free

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 2 Years of crop production experience AND
  • 2 Years of cattle Herdsman experience
  • Valid Driver’s License with Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Ability to work flexible work hours during calving season, spring planting, and fall harvest.
