This position is within the TRIO department, which is a set of federally funded college opportunity programs that motivate and support students in their pursuit of a college degree. TRIO programs provide academic tutoring, personal counseling, mentoring, financial guidance, and other support as necessary for educational access and retention. All services are FREE for students who participate in a TRIO program.

Upward Bound is one of the several programs under the TRIO umbrella. Upward Bound at North Central Missouri College serves a total of 50 high school students, who are either income eligible and/or a potential first-generation college student. The target areas we serve include Chillicothe HS, Gallatin HS, Brookfield HS, Hamilton HS, Trenton HS, and Tri-County HS. Students in Upward Bound are encouraged to take college preparatory courses throughout high school, therefore after school tutoring is available at each of our target schools.

*May leave earlier if travel is required. Student tutor will always go with an Upward Bound staff member.

 

Essential Functions: Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Attend tutor training
  • Conduct small-group and/or one-on-one tutoring
  • Help students develop positive study habits and skills
  • Help students with projects and to prepare for quizzes/tests
  • Encourage students to complete homework assignments
  • Be at work on time as scheduled
  • Exhibit excellent rapport with students, staff, and staff at our target schools
