Miguel Arraga from St. Joseph, MO, was recently recognized as the first completer of a the Earn & Learn internship partnership between North Central Missouri College and Altec Industries, Inc. This program allows selected students to work as a paid intern at Altec Industries, Inc. while attending NCMC. Miguel has now been offered and accepted a full-time position with Altec Industries. Miguel is currently pursuing an associate’s degree in Industrial Technology at NCMC’s Savannah Campus and is set to graduate this May. While working at Altec Industries, he plans to further his education at Northwest Missouri State University, aiming for a pre-engineering degree to eventually fulfill his dream of becoming an engineer.
Larry Davis, Altec Plant Manager/Plant 91 noted, “Miguel is our first apprentice with NCMC and has done an outstanding job with working and learning the manufacturing equipment we use. He jumped right in and worked beside the experienced maintenance techs without any hesitation.” Larry continued, “The program NCMC has put together has done an excellent job of preparing Miquel for his career in maintenance. They have prepared the foundation for him and with that ability has created an eagerness to learn and absorb as much as he can.”
Rick Sharp, NCMC’s Industrial Technology Instructor, emphasized the impact of the Earn & Learn partnership: “The Earn & Learn partnership is a game-changer for our students. We maintain regular communication with Altec about our students’ progress, ensuring they stay on the right track. This partnership not only offers hands-on experience but also guides us in better preparing our students for the workforce. It’s a win-win situation that helps us understand industry needs and equips our students with the necessary skills.”
Michael Evans, Altec Talent Sourcing Specialist, commented, “This is just the beginning of our partnership with NCMC, and I am excited to see what’s next. We have two organizations in Altec and NCMC that are aligned in vision and opportunity – both for the community and future workforce development. Miguel is just the first student we have hired, but we look forward to many more becoming a part of the Altec family.”
