North Central Missouri College Talent Search students participated in a drone workshop led by NCMC Industrial Technology Instructor Rick Sharp at the NCMC Savannah Campus. During the workshop, Talent Search middle school students ages 6-8th grade spent four days learning about programming, and flying drones, including commercial model drones.
Cindy Wells, Talent Search Director, said, “It was truly inspiring to witness our 6th through 8th graders master the art of programming and flying drones. The level of engagement and learning that occurred in just four days was truly remarkable.”
All the students took the FAA Drone Trust Test to earn their hobbyist license and practice drone safety. They then used code drone to create programs to make the drone fly, return, and land. The students perfected their drone skills by taking off and landing the drone and using the camera to take pictures and make precision landings.
Rick Sharp, NCMC Industrial Technology Instructor, shared, “I believe all the students thoroughly enjoyed the program, and I certainly enjoyed training them. They have become skilled drone pilots, and the TRIO staff’s support was exceptional!”
