North Central Missouri College Celebrates Trio Programs

Students, staff, faculty, and graduates at North Central Missouri College recently participated in the 2019 National TRIO Day of Service to celebrate and support TRIO programs. NCMC hosts two trio programs, Student Support Services (SSS) and Upward Bound (UB). Upward Bound, established at NCMC in 1997 has been serving area high schools for over 20 years and, Student Support Services has been serving students since 2001 at NCMC.

NCMC students celebrated TRIO Day by collecting items for the Green Hills Animal Shelter, participating in a cultural presentation about Curacao by NCMC student Pharon Pilgrim, and creating a balloon display in Geyer Hall. Each balloon displayed words that students contributed, representing what TRIO meant to them.

“TRIO programs have helped hundreds of hard-working students in our region graduate from college,” said Janet Pultz, Trio Director. “With the support of TRIO, these students have greater opportunities to contribute to the well-being of our communities.”

TRIO services include assistance in choosing a college; tutoring; personal and financial counseling; career counseling; assistance in applying to college; workplace and college visits; special instruction in reading, writing, study skills, and mathematics; assistance in applying for financial aid; and academic support in high school or assistance to re-enter high school.

Today more than 1,000 colleges, universities, and community agencies host more than 2,800 TRIO projects that serve more than 828,000 young people and adults. Trio Programs are 100% funded by the United States Department of Education.
