Have you ever wondered what drives people to think, feel, or behave the way they do? Psychology explores these very questions—and it’s a fascinating field of study! Whether you’re interested in a career in psychology or simply want a deeper understanding of the human mind, psychology courses at North Central Missouri College (NCMC) offer a foundation.

To support students pursuing a psychology degree, NCMC has developed the Associate in Arts: Psychology (AA)—a program designed to provide a seamless transfer pathway to four-year institutions. Learn more about the program here.

Psychology courses aren’t just for future psychologists—they benefit students in a wide range of fields and anyone curious about human behavior.

The Psychology Department at NCMC offers a variety of courses for students at all stages of their academic journey. General Psychology is the most popular starting point. Offered online and on-campus during the fall, spring, and summer semesters, it fulfills the Social and Behavioral Sciences requirement for many degree programs. Students explore topics such as human development, motivation and memory, learning theory, stress and stress management, personality and emotions, language and communication, and social behavior and decision-making. One student shared, “I had no idea there was so much you could learn about the human mind. This class helped me understand why people act and think the way they do.”

After completing General Psychology, students can explore additional courses, including:

  • Human Growth and Development – Learn how people grow and change throughout their lives.
  • Child Psychology – Focus on emotional, mental, physical, and social development in childhood.
  • Social Psychology – Study how individuals are influenced by society and social environments.
  • Abnormal Psychology – Explore psychological disorders and treatment methods.

Courses may be available as dual credit and are offered at the Trenton Campus, Savannah Campus, and online. Course availability may vary by semester—check the current NCMC course schedule for details.
